In cities and towns where parking is at a premium then wheel clamping is a situation drivers face very often. It may look similar, but wheel clamping on private property is very different than public property’s wheel clamping.

If you are involved in a wheel clamping situation

Of course, you should first know the conditions under which your car can be legally clamped. Especially, on a private property car park. Your car can be wheel clamped if you have parked in a car park reserved for employees of a certain company and you don’t work there. Another reason for wheel clamping your car is to overstay in a pay car park or to park dangerously (meaning blocking emergency exits).

Mr Hadfield an ex service man first got into trouble about his beloved motorbike. Which was clamped in a car park close to the local ASDA supermarket where he worked. As a result of having a stroke then Mr Hadfields motor bike was clamped and then towed away. Shortly after his stroke he was confined to a wheelchair.

Consequently, he was fined at £161. So, after the first day the bike was towed away and the fine rose to over £350. As most people would do in such a situation. Mr Hadfield began to panic. His fine was increasing by £21 a day.

These fines far  exceeded what Mr Hadfield could afford.

These are the most common situations for wheel clamping a car. Parking in a restaurant’s car park without being its customer is not enough for legally clamping your car. There must be notices displayed clearly which should warn people about the possibility of getting their cars clamped if they park in that area.

If you do get wheel clamped, as Mr Hadfield did, there are some guidelines you should follow. Remember that clamping a car or motorcycle in this case, So, without having an authorisation is a criminal offence. If the wheel clamping company is a perfectly authorized one. Subsequently, you have to pay the release fee.

Mr Hadfield is hoping to sell his motorbike to buy a new battery operated electric wheelchair. As far as I know he is still battling the fine?
