Although this attached article has nothing to do with wheelchair batteries or mobility scooter batteries ! so it should still be of interest for my disability blog. Because this new type of intelligent wheel. Was consequently introduced at the Hannover messe at a recent event. of course, from a certain Matthias Nienhaus, from a research group in Saarland University in Saarbrücken, Germany.

So, the new technology can be used wherever there is a need for additional support. Including, whenever pulling, pushing or driving a system that uses wheels. Simply monitoring the data generated when the motors inside the wheels rotate. Allowing the motors and hence the wheels to be controlled without the need for any additional sensors. This technology could one day be used on electric wheelchairs.

Researchers are demonstrating a technology that not only allows wheels to ‘know’ when and how to rotate, but also enables them to work together in interactive teams. The new technology can be used wherever there is a need for additional support when pulling, pushing or driving a system that uses wheels. Potential applications range from mobility aids, such as wheeled walkers and wheelchairs, to sack trucks, wheelbarrows and shopping trolleys.
